Regents

Regents

Regents are New York State tests that students are required to take before graduating. Within Social Studies students are required to pass two Regents, World History & Geography and United States History and Government. These are typically taken at the end of 10th and 11th grade.

The Social Studies Regents consist of 50 multiple choice questions and two essays. One essay is Thematic, where the student is given a theme or topic and they have to write an essay using their knowledge of Social Studies based on the given theme. The other essay is a Document Based Question, or DBQ, where the student has to first answer a series of questions based on documents that are given to them. Then the students must use the documents and their prior knowledge to answer the essay question.
